Welcome to my home.
Rad is STOKED you are here.
Well when it rains it pours people! This week was is big week for The Alison Show, and it’s only Tuesday! So far, I’ve had the flu, am still having (til Wed!) a Cookie Party Sale!, and not only did Gabrielle Blair of Design Mom post a really wonderful interview and home tour, but my buddies over at Martha Stewart posted some pictures of my wreath I made! And a really nice interview as well!
In the Design Mom interview I share the story of our house, and how I’m trying to do a better job of doing what I can with what I have!
And in the Martha Stewart interview I talk about finding time to craft, including the kids, and I also swore! Only, mildly, but they edited it. Hahaha but you can try to guess where.
ANYWAY, there were just so many good pictures from the shoot with Jessica Kettle Photography and my girl Cayleen from Walls by Mur (she helped style with me) that I thought I’d share some more right here for you!
Mostly I wanted to share some of the pictures of the family decorating cookies! And a few more pictures I love that weren’t posted elsewhere.
Here’s my wreath I made to be just like Martha!
As you’ve seen, my cookies are kind of intense and I’m not going to pretend that they are something that the family does ALL together. BUT I have learned how to include Ginger in a way that enables her to feel like she’s a part of the process, and in a way that I get done what I need to get done. Yes it takes more time, but I mean I shouldn’t have had kids if I don’t want to hang out with them ever, right?! Ha. Kidding, I love my kids.
Ginger and I bake cookies a lot while Rad is taking his nap. I let her help with the cookie dough part. We put on our aprons, that might be her favorite part, and Ginger unwraps the butter. I help her pour the flour in the bowl, sprinkle salt, and turn on the mixer. We pour in the vanilla together with one big glug. I let her crack an egg the other day…we’re not there quite yet, haha but she really likes helping. After the dough mixes I roll out the batter and she gets to lick the paddle. After that has been scraped clean of every morsel she tries to steal as much cookie dough as possible. If Rad’s awake he just follows us around the kitchen until the cookie dough part and then seriously double fists it.
I try to always bake a few extra cookies so that Ginger can decorate them just how she wants. Though usually I decorate the cookies when the kids are in bed.
But because baking cookies with my kids is one of the very few things I’m doing well as a mom (we make cookies instead of dinner then go get takeout) I thought it would be fun if Jessica Kettle captured a few pictures of Eric and I and the kids decorating cookies together. The decorating photographs better than the baking, ok people?
Oh man DO I LOVE THAT BOY! I was also so happy that Jessica was able to capture so many of the items I’ve made for Christmas over the years! There’s my advent calendar I made!
And the felt triangle garland and embroidered ornaments I made of Gigi when she was a tiny baby! These are downstairs on the kid’s tree.
And of course so fun to have her capture the tree. I swear next year I’m going to start in January doing all handmade ornaments. That sounds reasonable, right?
And there’s the stuff other people have made! Like this amazing house and wreath from Courtney Snowden!
And we can’t forget my new aluminum tree!
Honeslty? I’m having a hard time not sobbing throughout posting all of this. Haha, Jessica just did such an amazing job capturing everything I love so much. My family, baking, and festive decor, both handmade and collected!
One more of the loving fam? This right here is the Christmas card shot, right?
Oh man I can’t even start on the sources! But start asking if you have questions! And I’ll do my best!
Again, thank you to Design Mom for giving me a deadline and the motivation to finally capture some of this stuff!
And thanks to Martha and team for the inspiring wreath!
I love you all, and hope you have a wonderful holiday season! If you made it this far, well, you are amazing!
