Hello! I’m SO SO excited to share the first part of my French Cafe Bebe Shower pictures with you! There were so many fantastic pictures (taken by my new favorite photographer Heather Hackney) that I wanted to split them up so as not to overwhelm you! In this part I’ll be talking about the signage and wall art I created for the party! In part two I’ll talk about the little details like the table decorations and the fresh flowers.

This party was really, really fun for me to plan for two reasons.

1. Heather (the mama to be) is one of my best friends and she’s always doing kind things for me. Like taking almost every picture on this blog! Haha. She is such a good friend to me and I was really excited to be able to shower her soon-to-be-baby girl with love!

2. I partnered up with Bing Smart Search while planning this party! Which meant first and foremost that I had a small BUDGET (read MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!) to throw this shower (I usually have NO BUDGET for anything I do!) haha, and I also got to try out their awesome new way to search while I was planning.

The whole point of Bing’s Smart Search is that is gives you rich visual results. One thing I knew I wanted to do was make some paper flowers for my walls.

Here’s what happened when I searched for some ideas:

Using the search on Windows 8.1 is super fast and I was able to quickly scan lots of paper flower ideas for my wall art! I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so I ended up kind of making up my own method.

I used inexpensive crepe paper folds cut in to large rectangles to make my flowers, then I did an accordion fold with those rectangles.

And then I used them all over the place!

I used them over the main food table!

That jaw-dropping arrangement was made by Lizy Bowden, but more on that and the treats tomorrow!

Over the crepe station!

And to dress up the chalkboard I stole from GIgi.

The accordion fold I used to make the flowers is similar to my paper pinwheels, but I layered 3 pieces of crepe paper (instead of a single sheet). Then I rounded the folded ends (with scissors) before opening the flowers up. After I pulled the layers apart from each other, I covered the center of the flowers with a large circle of felt. I used a hot glue gun to put the center in place. This tutorial using napkins gives you a similar idea.

To create my burlap banners I used Bing Smart Search to help me think of some french baby shower phrases. Here’s what one of my searches looked like when I searched “French Baby Shower”:

Immediately my eye picked up on that “Bonjour Bebe” phrase. I really liked that one.

I wanted to do something different than just printing large poster-size banners (to cover up all the empty wall space) but I also didn’t want to spend too much time or money on something I probably won’t use ever again.

So for my “La Creperie”, “Bonjour Bebe” and “Ooh la la” signs I decided to use some burlap I had on hand.

Burlap is cheap at the craft store, about $3-4 a yard. I typed the phrases in a pretty font on my computer, then I looked at the script (I used Masana Script) as I drew them on the burlap with permanent marker. Nothing too scientific, but it worked.

I covered my table in wax paper, so the paint wouldn’t soak through to the table, then I painted over what I had written in Sharpie with navy blue acrylic paint.

I also used some burlap to created this bow garland!

Don’t you love the french flag made out of Freshly Picked Moccs? The perks of being besties with the CEO. Muhahaha.

To create the bow garland I followed my flouncy bow tutorial, but just made them bigger!

Based to the response it got on instagram apparently people really liked that bow garland. Haha I thought other stuff was cooler, but I’m never great at guessing what will be a “hit” with people.

I saw with my Bing Smart Search results that a lot of french baby showers had served crepes, and I thought that was a good idea for dessert.

But my mom had the BRILLIANT idea of inviting our friend to bring his professional french crepe maker over, and give us all a little demonstration on how to use it! So he was making crepes when people arrived and it made the whole house smell like we were in a creperie in Paris. Probably. Haha.

Here’s the mama of honor trying her traditional french crepe.

Like I said I have lots more to share with you tomorrow! But if you have any questions about what I shared today, fire away!

But I hope you enjoyed my ideas for the wall art and decor! The flowers and the burlap banners are a very fun and inexpensive way to dress up your space for not too much money. They give you a lot of bang for your buck size-wise.

A huge thanks to Bing Smart Search for helping me in the idea phase! It was so fun to get to use a new search tool, and I really recommend you try it out!
