Remember when I proclaimed my love for this homemade laundry soap? How it smells SO good and supposedly you can make it for $30 and it should last for a year? Or as some people in the comments section say, at least six months?!

Well I made some! I don’t know how long it will last! But it gave me an excuse to make a cute jar to put it in! Which gave me an excuse to try out the glass painting products that I got in my 12 Months of Martha supply box for July! (yes, I’m late…) See my other projects or an explanation of what I’m talking about here!

Anyway. I’ve actually researched painting on ceramics and glass A LOT. Like, a lot, a lot. And I’ve tried SO many different types of stencils. So you can trust me when I tell you that for a this type of project, these supplies really are the best I’ve tried. It’s very hard to get the paint to come out not streaky. It’s doubly hard finding a stencil that keeps the lines clean. And as you can see, I pretty much NAILED IT. Sorry I am so horribly pleased with myself.

I used this crazy new “glass spray paint kit” and it seriously blew my MIND. In fact when it came in the mail I thought it was kind of stupid. LIke an excessive product. But when I saw my design was going to be a large block of color. (I made the stencil using the adhesive film I used for my fruity french easter eggs) I decided to give it a try.

Basically you turn any glass paint into glass spray paint. And it’s BOMB.COM. The finish is PERFECT. It looks like a sticker almost it’s so smooth and pretty. Anyway. I was very pleased! And in case you’d like to use my stencils you can download it and make yourself a giant soap jar too!

1. Make your $30 laundry soap mix. It will fit exactly in the jar. I got this jar at Bed Bath & Beyond. I went to 3 stores because I wanted one that DID NOT have a glass lid. So, you can find that there! This is the recipe I used from Jillee’s blog and got it ALL at wal-mart:

3 bars Fels Naptha, grated
1 box Borax
1 box Washing Soda
2 cups of baking soda
1 container Sun Oxyclean (it says 96 loads on the package)
1 large containers of Purex fabric softener crystals

Put all that stuff in 2 garbage bags and mix it up.
Use 2 tablespoons per load. Put it right in the barrel if you have an HE washer.

If you have questions look at Jillee’s blog she has a TON of detail and there are great tips in the comment section!

3. Place the adhesive film on top of the stencil and cut out the stencil with a razor blade. Cut out the inside of the “SOAP” letters first, then the word “SOAP” then the bubble. Place the stencil on the jar. I put some painter’s tape on the places where I thought unwanted paint might spray.

4. Follow the directions on the Martha Stewart glass spray kit for mixing your own paint. You could try just regular spray paint that works on glass, but I’ve found that spray paint on glass (especially clear glass) gets scratched VERY easily and starts to peel.

5. After 2 hours or so peel off the stencil. I’ve found if you wait for the paint to completely dry the stencil will start to peel the paint off. If this happens, just use your xacto knife to separate the paint from the stencil. If this happens to you, you’ll get what I’m saying. I promise.

6. Pour your soap in, add some tassels and find someone else to do your laundry!!!

Yeah, that’s my washing machine. I am single-handedly killing the entire planet I bet. Ugh. I’d like a new one, but you know. LIFE BABY!

Love you all!
