Well it’s about time I start making things for this lil’ man…right?! And so I rustled up some tiny onesies, I believe these are all the Gerber ones, and made a few designs to stencil on. I totally borrowed ideas from some designer kids clothing I love, though I try to never just rip something off, but for that reason SPECIFICALLY I ask that if you use these stencils DO NOT sell things made from them! That’s the case with all my stuff, but especially in this case!

So hop on through for the tutorial, and for the free stencils!

DOWNLOAD THE STENCILS HERE!

I’ve don’t quite a few tutorials with freezer paper stenciling, so for the most part I will refer you to them! But I wanted to share a method for tracing that I use that is SUPER fast! See my diagram below:

If you print your stencil on card stock you will be able to use the same print out to trace 3-4 freezer paper stencils. But like I say in the diagram, be sure to save the “inside” parts where you don’t want paint. Like the middle of the “O” in “Boy” and the little snow caps on top of those mountains.

Then you just iron on the stencil, again, shiny side down, and be sure to put some card stock in-between the layers of the shirt before you paint. See my tutorial here for more pictures and info!

I always use Tulip Soft Fabric Paint. I buy it at Joann Crafts because it is cheaper there than Hobby Lobby or Michaels, and they have a better selection. At least that’s the story in my town!

Freezer paper is available at the grocery store or the craft store. At the grocery store you buy it by the parchment paper and foil! One roll will last a LIFETIME.

For this guy I used a toothpick to make the little lines. I used one for the black paint and one for the white paint. I painted his black eyes on top of the brown color. I can’t decide if he’s a bear or a lion?! I intended for him to be a bear, but the lines and dashes maybe got a little lion-ish? Either way, I like him!

This lil “puppy” is Gigi’s favorite. But it is totally inspired by a sweatshirt that was everywhere for a while. I can’t remember the designer, nor do I know if they still sell it, so if you’ve got the link let me know! I like to give credit where it’s due! Eric loves the mountains, he says it his favorite shirt I’ve ever made, other than this one.

And just in case anyone thinks my man is a girl…I think this will clear up any confusion! I plan on bringing him home in the “boy” one, depending on his size! It’s newborn one and he could be too big! We’ll see.

So happy crafting! I LOVE freezer paper stencils! You can do so much for so little! I can’t wait to see what you make!

  5. One of my faves from you! Thanks SO MUCH Alison!!!

    1. thank yoU! xo

  6. Do you know just how much I love when you put those mountains on anything and everything? I live in the valley below the Tetons, so I’m used to seeing the three big beautiful peaks (plus a few more smaller ones.) We’re trading those beautiful Tetons for a city skyline very soon, so I’m hoping to re-create your crafts with a three peak version very soon. THANK YOU for sharing!!!

  7. so awesome! thanks so much for this!

I have a baby girl and would love to try making some of these! Would love a “girl” onesie bc I am NOT a pink person, so people are always mistaking my little lady for a boy! How did you make all of these stencils? And do you just iron the freezer paper right onto the onesie and it sticks? THanks!

Allison these are adorable! One question: do I need to “heat set” the onesies by throwing them in the dryer inside out right after painted and dried? Or is that not necessary? Thanks for your help!

    1. You know I’ve done that and I honestly didn’t notice a difference. So you can if you want! My washer drier also suck hahaha so maybe a nicer one would have made more of a difference!

I love these! I am planning to do these for a girls night for one of our ladies who is expecting her first. I am having a hard time downloading the stencils though. It could very well be user error. Would you mind emailing them to me? Thank you so much!
