Basement Facelift – child’s Window

thealisonshow-gigiswindowafter

The Great Basement Facelift continues! Today the basement is getting new carpet. Huzzah! So we’ve painted all the walls, including Gigi’s window sill. I chose a Kelly Green and I’m really obsessed with it. All of the walls are Ultra Pure White in an eggshell, and the trim is Ultra Pure white in high gloss. We did this in every room and I’m in love. Because the basement gets so little light the pure white really makes the most of the light it gets.

Here’s the window before. I know it can be taboo to paint over the original wood, but a renter had painted over most of the original wood (including the wood on that built in desk ARGH) so I figured it was game. The green matches a color I used on Gigi’s dresser, which I will show you next week! I’m going to make a black-out shade for her window. I nixed the disgusting blinds.

I once heard from a great interior designer that it’s always best to dress windows with good white blinds first, and then add curtains. I think for the most part I agree with this and that’s what we’ve done upstairs. But down in the basement, I feel rules don’t apply. Your thoughts? Also, I think I want to wall paper that little desk?! How do you feel about that?

I hope all is well and that you’re having a wonderful week filled with baked goods and Sonic Diet Cokes with squirts of cherry and vanilla flavoring.

xo,
Alison

  1. I vote YES for wallpapering the desk area! And I agree. Basement blinds – the rules don’t apply.

And a Sonic Diet Coke with a squirt of vanilla (I’ll skip the cherry, thanks) sounds amazing right now. I live in a Sonic deprived land and it’s really hard to make it through each day. Ok, not really. But my day would be SO much better if it included little pellet ice from Sonic.

    1. ah! I haven’t been an addict of the sonic for too long, I’m usually a purist, but it has been really hitting the spot lately!

  2. That green just gets me going!

  7. Alison, I am a long-time lover of your blog but I don’t think I’ve ever commented before! I’ve thought you were fabulous since the first day I read your blog and this post just confirmed that. I take my caffeinated beverages very seriously and I thought I was the only one that put cherry and vanilla in my diet coke! That combo rocks my socks.

  8. Such an adorable blog!! Love the window color also! I need to get more crafty around my house!
