How I Share it

How I Share it

So I am super excited and a tad nervous to share this new series of videos with you! Because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while now, and at the same time it’s so near and dear to my heart and means so much to me it’s nerve-racking to put out in the world.

But here goes everything.

Almost 2 years ago I shared that my husband Eric had lost his job, and we made the decision to both work for ourselves.

In that time we have both grown and struggled a lot. But I’d say the biggest triumph for us is that we have both discovered what we believe are our unique gifts, and now we are making a living (though it is currently a humble one) from our passions.

I basically think the point of life is to find your gift, what makes you YOU, and for you to share the hell out of it. And that’s what I’m trying to do! Share my gift! But sometimes I can’t figure out how! For example, I wanted to do these videos, but I needed some parameters! I needed some funding! I needed some encouragement. (Don’t we all?)

Enter Western Digital. They are partnering with influencers and looking to share their stories. You might not think you know WD, but it’s like, hard drives? Yeah. Kind of a big deal. Haha. I told them about my idea for a series for The Alison Show called, “How I Share It” and they loved it! And then enabled us to film these and bring these first three episodes to you.

It’s is sincerely a dream project. But it’s not always all about me, ok?

After you watch these videos WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOU! And your gift! And how you are trying to share it, or figure it out!

So hop below the videos to see how to enter!

In the first video Eric and I share how we decided to go all in, and what that means for us, and our family. We talk about how we split up our work time, and taking care of the kids, how we live off the land (not really), and what we do most of the time as a family (spoiler, eat popsicles on the porch).

Next I share what I believe my gift is, a little more about The Alison Show, and how I’m sharing my gift and trying to hustle it! You can also see some behind-the-scenes action of Eric making one of my IG dance videos, and I talk more about why I’m do all the random things I do!

Then you get a glimpse at my SUPER hip hubby’s studio, his work as a music producer, and how he works with artists to share his gift. He brings our “cool factor” up a lot, I know, I know.

WD and I want to know how YOU SHARE YOUR GIFT, so we are also holding a giveaway for this amazing My Cloud Mirror: which is wireless cloud storage, and it’s AWESOME, on my Facebook page! So be sure to enter and tell me all about YOU! I love this giveaway because this exact product has helped me share my gift.

WD is giving away:
THREE My Cloud Mirror (approx. $300 value each) and
THREE My Passport portable hard drives (approx. $75 value each)

ENTER THE GIVEAWAY ON FACEBOOK!

My Cloud Mirror is this cute, sleek wireless hard drive (a little box that sits under my desk and I never see it) has changed how I do a lot of things! It makes editing my videos and saving large files so SO much easier, I’ve backed up my photos and I don’t live in fear that I’ll lose my computer and lose my life. Plus it’s wireless so Eric and I can both use it, save to it, and access files from our phone or anywhere. It’s THE BOMB.

But back to me ok?

I share these not because Eric and I think we have it all figured out, but because we are so passionate and excited about what we’re doing, that we hope if you’re thinking about taking the plunge to share your gift, that you’ll feel comforted in knowing others are too!

And maybe you aren’t quite sure what you want to share yet. Wait, been there, for like the past 7 years of my life. Haha. So maybe this will be helpful on that end as well.

I hope you enjoy learning a little more about what we’re doing over here! And I can’t wait to hear about you over on Facebook!

Thank you so much for your love, support, feedback, and for being a part of me dream.

Oh, Alison. You are amazing. Such an inspiration to me. I loved these videos. I’m at a point in my life where I desperately want to follow my dream and my passion, but I don’t know what it is. I don’t really know what I’m good at. One day, I will get there though. In the meantime, I’ll just continue to watch your amazing dance videos on Instagram. 🙂

I LOVED the videos and hearing about the journey. I kinda feel like you in that I’m trying to find out what exactly I’m good at to share with others. I too studied art in college, but wasn’t an “artist”. I have so many interests and creative things that excite me, it’s hard to figure out what I’m really GOOOOOD at.

I things it’s wonderful that you are so open and I am sure that it must be hard sometimes because people on the internet can be mean. I just love your blog and it ALWAYS puts a smile on my face.

I can’t wait to see more videos and more AWESOMENESS.. we all need plenty of that in our lives.. fo sho!

I love these videos. For lots of reasons, I have been following your blog for a long time and have always loved it, and your Instagram too. My husband and I are also recently self employed (as of March 2013). My husband had a great job with a major financial services firm but was super unhappy. The problem was he was successful, and did his job well…but it didn’t make him happy. He studied painting in college and has always painted, but only “on the side”, and that is his true gift. It’s just hard to survive much less support a family of four as an artist, but working at a job that brought him no happiness was just too much. So after many long nights of talking we decided that our dreams will never come true if we don’t try to make them happen. So he quit his successful corporate gig and is painting full time now. I spend most of my time trying to promote his artwork and find new galleries and venues to showcase his work. It’s hard. Definitely scary, and also super liberating. In many ways we have never been this happy. It’s hard to walk away from a successful job, but there really is nothing more important than happiness. He is happy now and that means everything. Thank you for sharing your stories. It’s nice to see other people going after their dreams and having fun doing it.

You guys are stinkin cute. It’s funny you posted this today because last night Marshall and I had a similar conversation. We talked all about what do we want to do and what will make us happy. I’m sharing this with him right because it’s so great. Thanks Alison and Eric for sharing.

Thank you for your gift you put out there! I feel better, more confident, & working toward awesomeness because of what you do with your Awesome series to the point that I no longer just think about ideas I want to pursue but actually do stuff to work toward making those ideas a reality. I love “How you share it” in Epsiode 2 of this new series. Keep it coming because it’s positively powerful and makes a real difference!

You have just inspired me to stop hemming and hawing and to get my butt in gear and start on my creative project. I’ve been self employed as a social media consultant for years and I was able to survive in NYC on that. But since having babies & moving to back to CA I slowed down & used that as my excuse. I’ve wanted to be more creative and challenge myself. Your blog has been so motivational and inspiring. You and your family are so adorable and real. I love it and am so happy you aren’t afraid to put it all out there to help people realize their own potential. Thank you for these videos! All the best. T

You know when you’re deep in the interwebs, completely unsure how you got there, but have somehow stumbled upon the exact thing you needed to see at that moment? That just happened with these videos. I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching lately to figure out my purpose/passion and it’s finally starting to come together. This post really just reaffirmed that a) it’s both possible & necessary to follow your purpose, and b) the only way to do so is by trusting your gut and believing in your gifts (even when they seem “silly”, “unimportant” or all those other awful adjectives we assign to ourselves out of insecurity & fear). Thank you and Eric for your thoughtfulness, openness, and the inspiration to live a life of intention. You are awesome.

I’m finding more reasons to love you with every post! Love seeing you and your husband together. Very sweet. He’s the calm to your crazy. Y’all have a good thing going and are taking risks which is really encouraging. My husband really wants to stop his 9-5 job (or 6-6:30…) and start a business with me. I’m going to show him this!! Y’all make it work! And speaking of making it work, that blue hair?! Perfect.

I really love this because we are currently in the same situation. Pregnant with our second baby and my husband just quit his steady job to work for himself (i have already been doing this for a few years). We are so so scared and excited at the same time. I have no idea how it will work but have faith that it will. Doing what you love and what you’re good at is the best! My dreams are always changing and evolving and thats what makes doing what you love so fun is you can always grow and do more awesome stuff!
    Thanks for further inspiring me!

Oh man, I stumbled across your blog a few months ago and I fell in love the moment I read your tagline, “Keep it crafty, keep it sassy.” I feel like that’s exactly the way I feel about my whole life!

Since then, I just keep reading and following and liking everything you post on Facebook because you are literally the person I want to be. Well, I want to be myself of course, but I feel like you’re my spirit animal or possibly my patronus. 😉

I think what you’re doing is really important and inspiring and someday I hope to be able to share my talents with others to help them too. I just haven’t quite figured out how yet…

Anyway, just know that you are a complete champion, and I am in awe of how true you are to yourself and PLEASE don’t ever stop, otherwise I will probably never stop crying. Deal? Deal.

Love your stuff. I’m a stay at home Mum, have been for almost 6 years now & my youngest is turning 3 in a few months so I finally feel like I have the energy to do something for me.. I have many ideas & dreams but getting going is my downfall so your videos have helped me to really want to push myself harder, set goals & schedules to make things happen. Thanks for being awesome.

Clearly I’m a year behind but I have loved watching these videos!! I finally realized what my gift is… making parenthood fun! I’m not quite sure how to share it but if you can find a way to share how to be awesome… I can surely find a way to share parents having fun while teaching their kids important things right!?! Thanks for the inspiration!!
