Spring Sugar Cookies: Edible Flowers

Spring Sugar Cookies: Edible Flowers
February 25, 2014 Alison Faulkner

Last week I wanted to bake and decorate some VERY cheerful cookies. And in my opinion there’s nothing more beautiful than some Rifle Paper Co. looking flowers. So with that color palate and the shapes as my guide I had fun making some pretty intense cookies! Haha. It was also fun using my Valentine’s day flowers, which were on their last leg, to style the pictures.

I just can’t get enough flowers lately!

I always decorate my cookies late at night, so the behind-the-scene shots aren’t too glam! But here you can see how many colors it takes to even do something as simple as flowers.

My royal icing recipe/instructional video is here, but I have learned SO much since then so I have so many other tips and tricks and my recipe is a bit different. But it’s still a really good basic recipe to get you started!

I have a fun sugar cookie project underworks right now (which is why I’m not giving step-by-step or too many instructions here) and I’m excited to share more details with you later! Until then I’ll be making lots of cookies in prep for that!

In other news I wrote a piece for Babble that I have A LOT of thoughts about, and these are just some of them! But I’d love if you let me know what you think of:

Posting Online Comments: How to Put the Best Version of Yourself Out There!

which was alternately titled:

5 Questions I Ask Myself Before I Post a Comment Online

Ha! I’m not sure which one I like better, but I like discussions like this where we become conscious of all our social media interaction, and how to keep it more coherent with how we conduct ourselves in our everyday lives! So in this post we have both food, and food for thought? Or maybe just food. BAH!

Gigi was PRETTY excited when I told her one of these fancy cookies was for her, and I was pretty excited that she wanted to share it with me Lady and the Tramp style.

I love that girl!

Happy reading, happy baking and happy commenting! I love you all!

Those flowers are simply beautiful! Sugary art is the best…

Wow, Alison, these cookies are just gorgeous! You really captured the Rifle Paper Co. look. So, funny thing: I’m a total lurker and basically never comment, but your cookies were so pretty I decided I had to say something…and then I got to the part about your Babble post. HA! What perfect happenstance that you posted about commenting right when I got up the gumption to comment. 🙂

I really hope you’re in the process of writing a book right now. That’s why you can’t give us all of the details, right? 😉 I live too far from Provo to come to one of your cookie classes so I have to figure out another way to learn your tricks!
