The sunglasses serial killer

So, I really like sunglasses. Other than the fact they make you look cooler, one time I read that they save you the wrinkles from squinting in the sun. And even though I never think about wrinkles, wrinkle-prevention, or the general aging process, probably because my mom never dwells on it (moving on), that little notion has always stayed with me, so I figure if nothing else, I’ll wear sunglasses as my anti-aging treatment.

But I tend to lose them, like, a lot. So I only buy cheap ones, even though I really really want a pair of Ray-Bans and have for like, 4 years.

So, where am I going with this? I was scrolling through pictures of the past year to compile a photo book, and I started noticing old sunglasses and thinking, HEY! Where are those?! I can think of a least 2 pairs unaccounted for…bringing the grand total of the number of sunglasses I’ve owned in the past year to 12. That’s a pair a month.

And for no other reason than I look like an idiot in most of these pictures (thank goodness I take so many selfies!) I thought I’d share them with you. Let us all take a moment of silence to celebrate the lives of our sunglasses past.

Honestly I’m feeling downright wasteful. I really wish I knew where all these pairs have vanished to. The last pair are my current pair, a lil floral ditty from Target. Also notice how happy I look in the last pictures…it’s no coincidence that they represent the later part of my pregnancy. Hahaha.

But look how fun my pom-pom hair clip is! I posted the tutorial for them here!

How about you, are you a sunglasses serial killer too?! Any tips for not losing them? I’m open to suggestions people.

  1. My husband bought an expensive pair of sunglasses a few years back. He said he has never lost them simply because the fact that he did spend so much money on them made him super paranoid, and overly cautious with them. I’m terrified I would just spend the money and lose them anyway!

    • Haha but I LOVE that logic, because it means I should just drop $200 on one pair…instead of like $10-15 on 12 pairs…right?! haha

I’ve lost my fair share of sunglasses too. I made a cute little slip pouch for mine out of fabric that I really love and I keep it in my purse. I found that if I have a place for them then I won’t just leave them around and not be able to find them again.

    • I think this is half the battle! A place for everything, my mom would always say that when we were cleaning up! Do you wish you had a hard case though?

  3. It takes me forever to find a pair of sunglasses that will actually look good on my square face, and I am a sunglass serial killer. I break them, or loose them, or donate them to a needy four year old child who throws them and cracks them in his sand box. Sadly, I do not own a pair at the moment. It will take me months to find my next victim. Happy hunting!

    • HAHAH I would never help a 4-year-old, I think that’s enough good karma to help you find your next pair! right?!

  4. ha! I tend to murder sunglasses too- but mostly it’s the broken-arm-and-bent-frame variety of demise. I live in Hawaii and wear sunglesses every single day and have a gazillion pairs. Two things help me hold onto the non-broken ones: 1. I’m always wearing them- when they’re not on my face they are on my head. Sometimes I’m getting ready to go to bed and find them still on the top of my head like a headband, even though the sun went down hours ago. and 2. I have a sunglass DRAWER and I am constantly shoving them in there when I find them around the house. It’s stuffed.

    • Hahah I love that! I always hook them on my shirt. Really it’s just an excuse for some extra cleavage…right?! I swear my husband would raid my drawer though, he’s always stealing mine!

Ok here is the thing, I’m a sunglasses serial killer too. Not just losing, but sitting on them, letting the kids have them, drop them in the lake kind of thing. Last year I got a pair of Proof sunglasses as a gift and I am IN LOVE. I’ve had them for 11 months and they are still in my car unscratched and in great condition! So I guess the moral of the story is, if we get some high quality sunnies maybe it forces us to keep track of them better. Plus my Proofs are awesome. They have spring hinges, are made of lightweight bamboo so they’re eco friendly, and they float! Win win. I think the website is iwantproof.com but I’m sure you can google them. Good luck killa!

  6. Most recently I lost a pair in a river rafting accident that threw me out of the raft. And even though I was super grateful, I mean SUPER grateful that I and everyone was safe, I still couldn’t get over loosing a favorite pair of sun glasses! How pathetic right? I think it’s time I buy a new pair!

    • Haha not pathetic at all! I seriously spent like an hour looking through pictures LAMENTING the loss of $12 sunglasses. There’s nothing like a good pair!

SASSY PEEPER-KEEPERS! Yes, you know..the chain that goes on your glasses and around the back of your neck. It’s like a backwards necklace and you can make them out of a subtle chain, pearls or painted pasta, sky’s the limit!
