I fell in a love with a boy, and some boy’s clothes

Remember when I was kind of shocked, and not THAT excited to be preggers with a little mister man? Well life sure is funny. After the shock wore off, and I was able to catch my breath, my heart started opening up to every little baby boy I’d see.

Their flirty little eyes, the fact that one day they will all probably be taller than me, the inevitably of an awkward puberty phase…the little men in my life (and in my peripheral vision) started to melt my heart. And then all of the sudden every little kick, and every little flutter in my belly became my tiny mister, just trying to get his mama’s attention and prove what a tiny little man he is already is. Oh boys. What can you do with them other than stroke their egos and love them?

And even though I stand by my declaration that infant boys are much harder to shop for than infant girls, I’ve been having a pretty fun time looking around at all the little duds my dude might sport. Here are some of my current favorites. But to be honest I have no money currently and I will mostly have to get to! make a lot of stuff for him. But I can use this as great inspiration, right? Or as a gift list…

1. Handmade sweatshirt & pants by Groovy Baby Blog // 2. Trousers with Suspenders by Zara // 3. Striped Brief by Goat Milk // 4. Strip Hoodie by Polarn O Pyret // 5. Navajo Sweatshirt by Munkstown // 6. Basic Leather Boot by Zara

I’m also feeling anything black and white big time. But can you blame me?! It’s so classic, timeless, and hip. In other baby news I seriously CANNOT decide on a name! With Ginger’s name Eric and I were totally sure of it the moment we knew she was a girl. And I thought I had a name for a boy, but once I started using it, it just didn’t feel right! So I’m on the prowl, no baby’s name, Greek god, character from classic literature or bold adjective is safe.

I’m also busy busy getting my leather triangle baby mobiles back up and for sale. WOOT WOOT. You don’t know what I’m talking about? Well here’s a taste of the old ones. I hope to have the shop up this week! Stay tuned.

  1. I am expecting a boy in a month and I have had the same feelings. At first I was just bored with boy stuff, but now it’s growing on me. I love how grown up some little boy clothes are. so fun.

  2. I love the name Caspian from C.S. Lewis’ Prince Caspian. But I’m pretty sure some celebrity recently used it….. :/

  3. just so you know…we’ve had the exact same reaction. Now my 7 year old boy favors dark skinny jeans and button down plaid shirts. Oh and fancy sweaters and he has an absolute THING for dress coats. So there is hope. Just don’t EVER let him wear athletic pants…cuz once they go athletic pants there is no turning back.

    • HAHAHA I’m SO with you! I feel the same way about basketball shorts. For males, females, children, I’m not even convinced I like them on basketball players…I hope my man will wear dress coats! AH! So cute.

  4. i think boy names are so much harder than girl names! when i was pregnant we had a long list of girl names we liked, but couldn’t agree on many boy names. I wonder why that is? i’m so excited for you guys to have a little duder. boys rule!

    • haha seriously! I had so many I loved until it came time to actually USE one! thanks! xo

  5. did i not say you’d revolutionize the baby boy wardrobe? i can’t wait for this. geez.

and in other news, since i don’t have your phone number, you got the memo about the traveling bach party, right? we’re up north tonight at my house…

  6. I had one girl and three boys. It was hard finding clothes that weren’t plastered with sports stuff. But now, there are some really nice, and dapper outfits, out there thank goodness! And names. My last boy wasn’t named until we were walking out the door of the hospital. I found boy names a lot easier than girl names. I spent two weeks staring at my daughter and wondering if we had picked the right name. I like Henry, or Quinn. I even liked Corbin for a long time, until my husband vetoed it. :)

    • I love all of those names! I just know people with kids with those names. I have the hardest time using a name even if I remotely know a person who has used it…which is probably not even important and I’ll have to let it go!

  7. Angus!! :) It’s probably much more generic around you, but here in Québec I don’t know anyone who wears it. I saw Angus cows this fall during a vacation in the contryside, and they were so majestic and so much bigger and imposing, they really impressed me. (I fell in love with cows!! ;) )

  8. Liz V.:

Love these boys clothes! Boy clothes are hard, I think, so thanks for the great ideas. Especially the sweatshirt from Munkstown. My friend Liz Galvin is the co-creator/designer, and she is every bit as nice as she is talented!

    • How fun! I love all of their stuff! so cute! they need to get that sweatshirt back in stock!

  9. So glad to see that I’m not alone in being *slightly* disappointed to find out in pregnant with a boy! It’s also my second, the first a girl. I just can’t seem to get excited!! And the names… SO hard!! Finding cute boy things definitely helps though. I just started following your blog, so hopefully I’ll get some fun boy inspiration from you!

    • Thank you! It was nice writing this post to see I wasn’t alone too! People have been so understanding and supportive! I know we’ll love our lil men!

  10. I never knew how much I wanted little boys until I had them. There was just a flicker of disappointment with my second boy but I got over it quickly. My third was a girl and now I’m pretty sure that if we ever have another one, I want it to be yet another boy.

It’s funny that you say any character from classic literature or bold adjective, my younger son’s name is kind of both! He’s Wilder for my love of Little House on the Prairie and Laura Ingalls Wilder but it is also very descriptive of how he is!

    • That is the CUTEST name! and I LOVE those books. My mom used to read them to all of us when we were kids…boys and girls! You’ll have to do the same!

  11. Ann:

I love your description of getting used to the idea of a little boy. Dare I say we all like the idea of little mini versions of ourselves running around, so for me at least having a girl is exciting in that way. I have one girl and two little guys, and I felt an initial disappointment when I found out the gender of my last one. But, like you said, you get used to the idea, and once you meet them, there is no going back. Boys are busy and loud and seem to bump their heads a lot more (mine do at least:) But they LOVE their mamas. And mine take more after me than my daughter does, so there you go! I’m afraid mine do fall into that sports pants wearing attire and it’s true there is no going back. But I love these boy things that you’ve gathered, you’ve got some natural pizazz!

and…..I have a Wilder too! I wondered when I would meet or hear of another one @Nicole small world :)

    • HAHAHA I will totally steer clear of the track pants! but if that’s the worst thing…haha!

  12. K I just found your blog and am in love! You’re hilarious! stroke their egos!? Love that. My mom always says about boys, “They’re people too!” I always wanted a girl first, but had a just had my first baby, a boy, and I am hands down 100% wooped by him. I’m am obsessed with everything about him and I know that lots of it is because he’s a him. So excited for you! Love your Valentines milk and doughnut idea too. Might have to steal that idea! :)

    • haha Thank you so much! So nice to have you here! And your mom sounds like my kind of woman! thanks for saying hi! xo
