From Gigi’s Fancy Pants Birthday Party one year ago! More photos here.
My darling little Gigi bug is almost 2! And even though I pretend she’s nothing but trouble (actually I’m not pretending, it’s fairly accurate) I wouldn’t change my sassy girl for anything in the world. She is just so wonderful. She talks a ton. A sweet rhythmic prattle with punches of pep for emphasis. You don’t have to worry about getting it wrong with her, because she’ll yell (and point and finger wag) at you until you get it right.
What I love most about her is that she’s been this way since day 1. It’s just now, now that she can articulate her thoughts and form basic sentences, that I can understand why she did what she did when she was 6 weeks old. Her actions and words now explain why 2-month-old Gigi would freak out when everyone in the room tried to hold her, or why she’d instantly calm down when we blared Daft Punk. She’s gets overstimulated easily and needs her personal space! She also loves a good mindless release from her busy busy mind. Ha, it’s funny that it took me so long to get it, to get her, because she really is so much like her crazy mama. But better. So much better.
I’ve heard the sentiment with parenting that the days are long and the years are short. Holy hell that’s true. Being a parent is SO HARD, like, the hardest thing you can fathom, and at the same time as effortless as breathing. There are days when she flashes me a sticky smile and bats her eyes while saying, “Mama funny!” and I think, “I have the best job in the world. There is nothing better than being a mom.” And there are days when she won’t stop crying and fussing and screaming for more than 5 minutes at a time and I think, “Shaken baby syndrome is ALIVE AND A REAL THREAT!” Then I hide and eat a doughnut while she yells, “AAAAAAALLLLISSSOON.” Yeah, we’re on a first name basis when she’s mad.
Anyway. I love Ginger Jane. I also love throwing parties! The hardest thing for me when throwing a party is knowing when to stop. So I’ve decided I’m not going to…in terms of baking, crafting and planning that is. MUHAHAHA! I did however have to stop on the invite list. If I had a million dollars I would INVITE the world, and each of you. But because I really shouldn’t be throwing an elaborate party at this juncture in my financial life, I decided to just invite immediate family, and Gigi’s friends that she knows by name and plays with on a weekly basis. I almost didn’t have a party for Gigi because I hate, HATE HATE excluding anyone. It’s something I try really hard not to do. But then I realized I was denying myself something I loved because I was worried what other people would think. And that’s not good either. It’s a tough call though! What do you guys do?
If you follow me on instagram @thealisonshow (JOIN THE FUN!) you’d see I’m gramming the party prep like crazy! It’s going to be a Pony Party. Not a western party, or a cowgirl party, or a farm party. But a party with ponies. And I may or may not have hired a miniature pony to make an appearance in the backyard. WHAT?!
I sincerely get so so giddy planning Gigi’s parties. For me it is not stressful (well not that BAD kind of stress), or a burden, or something that “has” to be done. It’s something I stay awake at night thinking about because I love it so much! I say this because I don’t think you should be as crazy as me unless it makes you happy! Sure a bunch of crafts and baked goods make for some pretty pictures but so do some store bought cupcakes and balloons. And with that said…here’s a peek at my party prep!
I designed that little pony head and a party hat template. Then I made a ton of pom-poms! Tutorial video here. The pony hat will be a download on my blog so stay tuned for that if you’re interested.
And this is some fabric I’m using for favors. Though I’m still not 100% on it. I’m trying not to spend money and this is all fabric from my stash. The teal isn’t quite right but I’m trying to work through it. Ha.
This is my first time baking sugar cookies onto sticks! I was worried the shape of the pony wouldn’t work, but they seem to be holding up. I cannot wait to ice them and give them some sass. I used some tips from my baking idol’s blog when it came to using the sticks to make the cookie pops. But it’s not rocket science. You can do it!
Here are some of the hats almost ready for PONY TIME! I might add some bows to the hats for the girls if I get time. But I’m trying to complete projects so that they are finished, before I start another one! The party is this Saturday and I keep telling myself it’s better to have 5 completed ideas then 10 half-baked ones.
But the most exciting part of the party is that there will be two out-of-town guests! My niece Jojo (you can read about her tragic move here) and my niece Beverley! So wish me luck in my crazy-lady endeavors. I feel like this was a very long post about not very much. But I haven’t been writing as much lately and I miss it. If others miss it, well only time and google analytics will tell!
I love you all. Thanks for stopping by.
